Warning Signs

Does Your Child Need Occupational Therapy?

These are the most common signs that a child with autism needs OT support. If you recognize any of these in your child, early intervention can make a life-changing difference.

Extreme Sensory Reactions
Covering ears from normal sounds, refusing certain textures, melting down in crowds or bright light — sensory overload is a sign of sensory processing differences that OT directly addresses.
Struggles with Self-Care
Cannot dress themselves, refuses to brush teeth, struggles with toilet training or eating independently — these are core OT goals.
Poor Handwriting / Pencil Grip
Cannot hold a pencil correctly, avoids drawing or writing, or has very weak hand strength. Fine motor delay is one of the most common OT referrals for autism.
Cannot Sit Still or Focus
Constantly moving, falls off chair, cannot stay seated for meals or class — often related to poor body awareness and sensory regulation that OT targets.
Meltdowns During Transitions
Extreme distress when switching between activities, leaving the house, or changing routines. OT builds coping strategies and emotional regulation.
Difficulty Playing with Others
Does not engage in age-appropriate play, struggles with turn-taking, or cannot participate in group activities at school.

If your child is showing any of these signs — do not wait. Occupational therapy builds the everyday skills your child needs to function confidently and independently.

What Is Occupational Therapy?

Teaching Children to Do Life

Occupational therapy focuses on helping children develop the skills they need to perform everyday "occupations" — getting dressed, eating a meal, writing, playing, and participating in school. For children with autism, one or many of these areas may present significant challenges that hold them back from independence.

At the heart of OT for autism is sensory integration — addressing the way the nervous system processes information from the environment. Many autistic children experience sensory input very differently: sounds that seem normal to others can be physically painful, certain textures or fabrics can cause intense distress. OT directly addresses these differences so children can function in the real world.

Research confirms that occupational therapy produces measurable improvements in sensory skills, motor skills, self-care, language, social skills, and relationship-building. Combined with ABA and speech therapy, it is one of the most powerful tools in autism intervention.

Our Approach

What Happens in OT Sessions at eMind

A structured, step-by-step program designed to build real skills your child can use every day.

01
Occupational Therapy Assessment
We evaluate your child's sensory processing profile, fine and gross motor skills, self-care abilities, and daily living challenges. This comprehensive assessment identifies exactly where OT can make the biggest difference.
02
Personalized OT Plan
A customized therapy plan is created with SMART goals — specific, measurable targets like "button shirt independently in 6 weeks" or "tolerate textured foods without distress in 8 weeks." Goals are shared with parents so you can track every milestone.
03
Daily Sensory & Skills Sessions
Your child attends OT 5 days a week, 45 minutes per session. Sessions combine sensory integration activities (swings, textured surfaces, obstacle courses) with practical skills training — all delivered through play so children engage willingly and learn faster.
04
Sensory Diet Design
We create a personalized "sensory diet" — a daily activity schedule designed to keep your child's nervous system regulated throughout the day. This reduces meltdowns, improves focus, and makes home and school life significantly easier.
05
Parent Training & Monthly Review
We train you in OT techniques to use at home — during dressing, mealtimes, and daily routines. Monthly progress reviews update goals as your child develops and track every improvement.
What We Work On

6 Areas of Development We Target

Occupational therapy at eMind covers every dimension of your child's daily functioning — from sensory processing to school readiness.

Sensory Processing
Helping the nervous system process sounds, textures, lights, and movement so your child can function calmly in the real world.
Fine Motor Skills
Pencil grip, handwriting, cutting with scissors, using buttons and zippers — small muscle control for daily tasks.
Self-Care Independence
Dressing, eating, tooth brushing, bathing, and toileting — the daily skills that build real independence at home.
Emotional Regulation
Coping strategies for transitions, meltdowns, and frustration — teaching children to recognize and manage their arousal levels.
Gross Motor Skills
Balance, coordination, running, jumping — large body movements needed for play, sports, and physical activity at school.
Play & Social Participation
Engaging in age-appropriate play, taking turns, and participating in group activities at school and in the community.

Common Questions

Questions Parents Ask Us

OT helps children with autism develop the everyday skills they need for independent living — sensory processing, fine and gross motor skills, self-care like dressing and eating, handwriting, emotional regulation, and school participation. It meets children where they are and builds skills that make daily life more manageable at home, school, and in the community.
Sensory integration therapy is a core part of OT for autism. Many children experience sensory processing differences — sounds, textures, or lights can feel overwhelming or painful. Sensory integration uses structured activities (swinging, textured materials, obstacle courses) to help the nervous system process input more effectively, reducing meltdowns and improving focus and calm.
As early as possible — ideally in the preschool years when the brain is most responsive. Research confirms younger children benefit most from intensive OT. However, OT is effective at any age. Older children focus on handwriting, school participation, and community independence, but the core principles remain equally powerful.
ABA therapy focuses on behavior — reducing problem behaviors and building learning skills. Speech therapy focuses on communication — helping children speak, understand language, and express themselves. Occupational therapy focuses on daily functioning — sensory processing, motor skills, and independence in self-care tasks. All three complement each other, which is why our bundle packages are so effective.
Individual OT is Rs. 10,000 per month (5 days/week, 45 min/session). Our most popular bundle — ABA + Speech + OT — is Rs. 22,000 per month, saving you Rs. 26,000 compared to enrolling in each service separately. We also offer a Complete Care Package (ABA + Speech + OT + Physio) at Rs. 28,000 per month.
WhatsApp us at +92 303 5888587 to book a free consultation. Our team will assess your child's needs and recommend the right therapy combination. You can also start with our Assessment & Diagnosis package (Rs. 6,500) — the fee is fully credited back when you enroll in any monthly package.
